Winchesters Model 1892 Sporting Rifle .38-40wcf. The serial number of this early round barrel rifle is 4756X placing date of manufacture in 1894. The Buffalo Bill Museum letter that will accompany this rifle indicates the following stats: Rifle,.38 Caliber, Round Barrel, Plain Trigger, Receiver into the Warehouse August 17,1895, Shipped from the Warehouse on September 16th, 1895, with 19 other arms to order number 20802. The barrel has retained mayber 25-30% of its original factory blue the remainder has turned a nice even patina. The bore is verygood to fine and would rate an 8 on a 1-to-10 scale. The rifling is strong with lots of shine remaining. The magazine is probably an early replacement with 90-95% of its original factory blue. The receiver has retained approx.75-80% of its original factory blue with a tight, smooth and mechanically sound action. Lots of fire blue can be seen on the loading gate. Case colors are present in protected areas. Wood to metal fit is perfect without any evidence of sanding. Nice Antique and will make a great shooter.
